There are many potential culprits in this matter. Most commonly, damage is associated with an over-reliance on heated styling tools, like blow dryers and curling irons. While these appliances may help you achieve the style you want, their application of high temperatures to hair can result in dried out locks. Dry hair is much more prone to breakage, dullness, and frizz. Additionally, hair damage can be caused by too much washing or brushing. Ideally, hair should only be washed every other day, or even less. Washing each and every day can strip hair of its natural oils, which protect strands from damage. Also, brushing hair too roughly or frequently can pull on locks and lead to breakage. Finally, damage can be caused by chemicals found in many dyes, perms, or relaxers. Using harsh chemical products leaves hair more sensitive to damage from other tools, styling products, and, also, the sun.
